Black History Standard Bulletin - Elijah McCoy
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Elijah McCoy. Elijah McCoy was an inventor fascinated by steam engines. His parents escaped slavery in Kentucky by traveling along the Underground Railroad. At an early age Elijah showed mechnical ability, often taking items apart and putting them back together. In 1872 he developed a "lubricating cup" that could automatically drip oil when and where needed, and received a patent later that year. His invention was so popular people inspecting new equipment would ask if the device contained the "real McCoy" - the real thing, the highest quality. Elijah McCoy established his own firm and was responsible for fifty-seven patents - among them the ironing board and lawn sprinkler.
Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established. Proverbs 16:3
