Creative Easter Crafts for Kids is an activity book that features 20 crafts related to the Bible story of Jesus’ death and resurrection. Palm Leaf Stamping

Matthew 21:1–11

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven! Matthew 21:9 (NIV®)

Jesus and His disciples were on their way to Jerusalem for Passover. When they were almost there, Jesus sent two of the disciples ahead. “Go into the village, and you will find a donkey and her colt. Bring them to me. If anyone asks what you are doing, just tell them the Lord needs them.”

When the disciples returned, they placed their cloaks over the donkey colt for Jesus to sit on. A very large crowd gathered and began laying their cloaks on the ground for Jesus to ride over. They also cut branches from the trees to cover the road.

The people treated Jesus like a king and made a loud and happy parade as He passed by. They shouted, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” (Matthew 21:9, NIV®).

Try this craft to make a palm tree with branches like people may have waved to celebrate Jesus.

Materials:

• 9” x 12” pieces of construction paper
• Brown construction paper
• Glue
• Green craft paint
• Small paper plate
• Small pieces of material
• Soft kitchen sponge

Directions:

1. Cut a tree trunk from the brown paper and glue it to the 9” x 12” piece of paper.
2. Cut the sponge into a simple palm leaf shape (an oval stretched out into points).
3. Place a thin layer of green paint on a paper plate.
4. Dip the sponge into the paint and stamp leaves at the top of the tree trunk.
5. Reload the sponge with paint every other time you stamp.
6. Create a road for Jesus to travel on by gluing scraps of material below the tree. These will resemble the cloaks people put on the ground for Jesus to ride over.
