This book was written by ministers of the Church of God (Anderson, Indiana) because ministry apprenticeships have been a significant factor in the growth of the Church of God. The cost of a resident seminary degree is prohibitive for many students, even those with generous scholar­ship support. This financial obstacle looms large for people who answer a call to ministry in midlife with a family to support. Moreover, pastoral ministry calls for a high degree of spiritual and emotional maturity, which may not be gained through the seminary experience as well as it can through actual engagement in pastoral work. 

Written by nearly two dozen pastors, Ministry Wisdom conveys the wisdom and skill its authors have gained "in the trenches" of daily pastoral service. Most of the contributors were trained for ministry through apprenticeship to gifted older pastors, so they know the value of sharing this hard-won knowledge with the next generation of pastors.
