Pull out the crayons, markers and pencils for some good old-fashioned hands-on creative Bible fun. No technology required.

Warner Press offers that tech-free option in two new releases—My Jumbo Bible Story Activity Book and My Jumbo Bible Story Coloring Book. With 208 pages each, these books are jam-packed with Bible stories, both in words and art. The language is kid-friendly understandable, the illustrations and activities engaging.

Geared for kids ages 2 -7, the coloring book features well-known Bible stories like creation, Noah’s ark, David and Goliath, Daniel in the lion’s den, and more. “That’s a long time to be stuck inside with a bunch of animals” reads a section of the Noah’s ark story. Yes, kids will laugh. But they’ll also learn important lessons about trusting in God, forgiveness, healing and more as they work through coloring and hearing/reading the many Bible stories.

In the story of the good Samaritan, kids learn that “A neighbor is anyone who needs our help.” The story of the lost son teaches that “No matter how bad we have been, we can always come back to Jesus.” Such reaffirming words, accompanied by illustrations, help kids visualize and remember these important stories. Scripture references are interspersed throughout the coloring book.

Whether you’re a parent, grandparent, teacher, church volunteer/worker or just someone interested in sharing God’s Word with a child, you will find these books a creative way to connect kids with Scripture.

Six to 10-year-olds, especially, will delight in the many activities printed in the My Jumbo Bible Story Activity Book. From coded messages to hidden pictures, mazes to word scrambles, dot-to-dot to matching and more, this book can keep kids busy for hours. Some pages even prompt kids be creative by, for example, drawing pictures of loved ones or their idea of heaven.

Each of the Bible stories in the activity book includes Scriptural reference. Many—like God testing Abraham, Moses and the 10 Commandments, and Jonah and the whale—are familiar. Others, about Gideon, Nehemiah, Cornelius and Deborah, for example, may be lesser known. Yet, by the time kids work through the activities and read the words, they’ll know the stories. And they will have learned, too, about forgiveness, showing love, the assurance of heaven, kind words...

Some sections of the activity book highlight special days rather than specific Bible stories. The Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and more get focused attention with Bible references and related activities.

If you’re looking for a creative way to share Bible stories with kids, these books offer hands-on hours of activities for use in the home, classroom, church nursery, cabin, even on an airliner, and elsewhere.

Elders in a care center (or any adult) would also enjoy the mazes, coded messages, word scrambles, coloring pages and other activities offered in these bible story books. From drawing Samson’s muscles and long hair to dashing lightning and curling smoke across paper, these books engage and make Bible learning fun.

Given her love of words, writer Audrey Kletscher Helbling has always enjoyed word puzzles, word scrambles and word searches. But she’s happy now to pull out the crayons and color with her two-year-old granddaughter, whom she’s also teaching about Jesus.
