There are many ways to read the Bible. To sit alone with our Bible, allowing its words to wash over us as we call them out one by one, brings refreshment to the soul. Verse Mapping is a method for digging in and engaging with a verse of Scripture to better understand its meaning. Best suited for use with a single Bible verse or two, Verse Mapping is a way to break down Scripture by examining and analyzing its parts, then putting it back together with new understanding.

Through such tasks as defining words, looking up word synonyms, identifying cross-references, and exploring the verse in other Bible translations, the verse is broken down. It is put back together with new meaning as we look at it, in light of what we have discovered, personalized, and applied to our daily life.

Verse Mapping is a visual method for critically interpreting Bible text. It is systematic and purposeful, involving the development of notations, lists, charts, and diagrams that become the “Map.”

Will a child’s map look like yours?
