Seeking His Presence
30 Devotions Featuring the Timeless Art of Warner Sallman
INTRODUCTION
Chicago-based artist Warner Sallman (1892-1968) was a self-proclaimed “ordinary man” whose paintings of Christ have touched extraordinary numbers of people. Sallman’s Head of Christ painting is likely the most widely recognized image of Jesus in the world, reproduced hundreds of millions of times in various forms all over the globe. It has brought comfort in war zones, on death beds, and in everyday trials. Art has great power, and Sallman’s art speaks to us in a language only our souls can comprehend.
For the first time, thirty of Sallman’s best loved works—from Christ at Heart’s Door and Head of Christ to The Lord is My Shepherd and Christ, Our Pilot—are paired with meaningful devotions that speak to the message behind each painting. Those who have cherished Sallman’s works over the years will find this book to be a treasure, and even those who are unfamiliar with the artist will find solace in its pages.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Author Paul Strozier was born into a loving family and introduced to Jesus at an early age. But as he grew and became aware of his shortcomings, he began to believe he was unworthy of God’s love. This mindset caused him to feel achingly empty, and he began to try to satisfy the emptiness by experimenting with drugs, alcohol, pornography, and unhealthy relationships. After years of struggle and loss, Paul entered long-term inpatient rehab, and with Jesus as his center, Paul has experienced not only the love of God but also the love of family and friends.
ENDORSEMENTS
"
I had the privilege of being part of the launch team for this in-depth, heart-capturing study by Rachael Groll. It is a six-week, five days a week, study on 6 women in the Bible. Rachael is a thoughtful and knowledgeable leader, teaching you to dig into God’s Word and deeply understand each passage. Using the color method, you search for keywords and also highlight anything the Holy Spirit is speaking to you personally. I was surprised and delighted to see something new in these familiar passages. I admire and am grateful for Rachael’s vulnerability in the telling of her own stories.

Inspired by religious instructors who spoke of Jesus as a rugged and strong man, this Sallman painting depicts the Master as a man of strength, compassion, love and faith. This beloved depiction of Christ is by far Sallman's most popular work and the cornerstone of his ministry as a Christian artist.
